Double cleanse, heard of it before? Kbeauty lovers swear by the double cleansing method. This just means cleansing your skin twice, prior to your usual skincare regime. This step prevents breakouts and can drastically improve your skins complexion, texture and overall condition. Moreover, ensures a squeaky clean canvas for your skincare, don’t forget the neck!
You start off by cleansing with an oil based product whether that be a cleansing balm or oil. Oil-based products can breakdown makeup, SPF and sebum that’s been accumulating on the surface of your skin. Followed by a deeper cleanse using a water-based cleanser of choice whether that’s a foaming or gel cleanser. This step removes debris like sweat, dirt and devitalised skin that’s building up in your pores.
The word ‘oil’ tends to intimidate a lot of people as ‘oil’ reminds us of breakouts, clogged pores, shiny foreheads etc. In fact, a good oil cleanser can wash away the excess layer of oil and balance out your skin’s moisture level.
Spend at least a minute on each step to make sure you’re actually cleansing, totalling in two minutes just like brushing your teeth. Did you know the temperature of your water actually plays an important role in your cleansing routine? Too hot and you could risk irritating and drying out your skin, lukewarm is best.
How often you ask? It really depends on your skin type and the products (ingredients) you’re using. Generally speaking, if your skin type allows - once a day at night is perfect. Use what works for your skin, you don’t need anything too fancy or overly priced.
Double cleansing may sound very time consuming, but all you have to spare is two minutes. Eventually, this routine will start to become second nature, like brushing your hair.
